Every character starts on Rookgaard, a small island with no vocations and no spells. It is forgiving, but it can still kill a careless level 1. Follow this route and you will be on the mainland in one or two evenings.
- There are no spells on Rookgaard: food is your healing.
- Rats first, then snakes and spiders, then wolves.
- Skip the orcs; they hit too hard for their experience.
- At level 8, visit the Oracle to choose your vocation.
